    Abstract:

SCS-6 SiC/Ti matrix composite was prepared by a method of matrix coated fiber with magnetron sputtering and hot isostatic pressing. The tensile strength of the composite in as-processed condition was measured and the effects on the property were discussed. It is shown that the chemical concentration of the alloying elements in the coating is nearly the same as that in the target material. It was pointed out that the uniformity of the fiber distribution in the composite, the content of oxygen in the coating and the diffusion and reaction of elements at the fiber/matrix interface are the main factors for the property degradation of the composite.
