Abstract:
A series of Er2-xPrxFe17 alloys were prepared by the arc melting under the purified argon atmosphere. By means of X-ray diffraction pattern and SQUID magnetometer, the structure and magnetic entropy changes in Er2-xPrxFe17 alloys were investigated. The results show that the crystal structure is Th2Ni17-type hexagonal for Er2-xPrxFe17 alloys; the Curie temperature of Er2-xPrxFe17 alloys can be shifted to the room temperature around by a small adjustment of composition. Magnetic entropy changes (-?SM) near Curie temperature are relatively large in a comparatively wide temperature range for Er2-xPrxFe17 alloys. Er2-xPrxFe17 alloys are provided with great potential in application for the room-temperature magnetic refrigeration
