    Abstract:

An important experiment was reported in Nature by Oliver G. Schmidt and Karl Eberl: nanotubes can be formed from thin solid films of almost any material at almost any position, once these films are released from their substrate. This result can be expounded on the ground of the Thomas-Fermi- Dirac-Cheng (TFDC) electron theory.
