    Abstract:

Mo-Ti-Zr-TiC alloy was prepared via powder metallurgy method. The effects of trace TiC additive on the mechanical properties and microstructure of TiC reinforced Mo-Ti-Zr-TiC alloy were studied. The results indicate that the relative density and the tensile strength at room temperature of Mo-Ti-Zr-TiC alloy is effectively enhanced by adding trace TiC (0.1wt%~0.5wt%). The tensile strength achieves the highest value when the content of TiC is 0.4wt%, which is 28.1% higher than that of Mo-Ti-Zr alloy. The adding of trace TiC can inhibit the grain growth during alloy sintering process, which leads to the decrease of grain sizes with the rise of TiC content. A part of the fine TiC particles react with trace oxygen in molybdenum matrix to form (Mo,Ti)xOyCz compound second phase particles during high temperature sintering, while the other part are agglomerated into large particles, which play a role in grain boundaries purification and dispersion-strengthening.
