Special Issue: Surface Coating and Modification of Metal Materials

Message from Guest Editor-in-Chief:      

   Surface coating and surface modification of metal materials play an important role in aerospace and navigation, advanced equipment manufacturing, nuclear energy, hydrogen energy, biomedical metals, and many other fields. They are not only an important technical strategy for the high performance design of related materials and products, aiming at long life, oxidation resistance, wear resistance, strong corrosion resistance, and radiation protection. Surface coating and modification are also an important material basis for the application of new energy storage, sensitive sensing, functional devices, and new concept products. The research direction involves material science, mechanics, mechanical engineering, physics, chemistry, etc. Facing the harsh service conditions, the breakthrough of the key problems often requires the combination or integration of physical/chemical vapor deposition, laser beam/ion beam modification, anodic oxidation, cold/thermal spraying, electrochemical plating, and other technologies, which has become a research hotspot in the field of materials. This issue aims to discuss important advances in relevant research fields at home and abroad.

Ma Fei, Professor of Xi'an Jiaotong University,  selected into the New Century Outstanding Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education, winner of the Shaanxi Outstanding Youth Fund, and leader of the scientific and technological innovation team of Shaanxi Province. He is currently the vice president of the School of Materials of Xi'an Jiaotong University, the chairman of Shaanxi Nanoscience and Technology Society, the member of the thin film professional committee of China Vacuum Society, the deputy secretary general of Shaanxi Vacuum Society, and the member of the Surface Engineering Branch of China Mechanical Society. He has presided over more than 20 National Natural Science Foundation Projects and participated in 3 national key research and development programs. So far, he has published more than 260 SCI papers in internationally renowned academic journals. More than 20 authorized technical invention patents; won 5 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards; won the 12th Shaanxi Youth Science and Technology Award; won 1 Wang Kuancheng Yucai Award.

Wu Guosong, Professor, doctoral supervisor of Hohai University, chief editor of international journal Scanning, vice chairman of the Medical Metal Material Corrosion Control Branch of China Corrosion and Protection Society, Jiangsu Special Professor. He has been engaged in the research of surface technology and corrosion science for a long time, published more than 100 SCI papers, and made more than 40 conference reports, keynote reports, and invited reports in academic conferences. From 2020 to 2023, he was listed on the "Lifetime Scientific Influence" list of the world's top 2% scientists.
